A couple of years ago, I wrote about Reformation Day and how we desire to turn our focus towards an important moment in church history on October 31 instead of turning it towards a light-hearted celebration of witches, ghosts, goblins, and more.
If you choose to ignore Halloween, there are some great ideas on the web for Reformation Day activities that you and your children might enjoy. Rather than simply lament the abundant display of the grotesque, take this opportunity to learn with your children about the Protestant Reformation. It is truly an inspiring time in Church History.
- At The Well has a great list of online and print resources from which your family can learn and enjoy. There are quite a few activities and reading suggestions listed, and certainly enough to keep you busy for quite some time! Just taking the time to actually read the 95 theses would be an uplifting challenge.
- Mustard Seeds shows off a great example of a costumed Reformation Day, and the costumes really are adorable! I love that mom jumped in to the fun, too, along with a little monked baby.
- Sourjourn Kids offers some fun ideas that would work well in a classroom or Sunday school setting. Some are silly, like the Diet of Worms (and of course I could never recommend any activity that included gummy worms and Oreos! Image may be NSFW.

I think we will read Martin Luther: A Man Who Changed History by Paul L. Maier, read some of the 95 theses, and make Luther Roses tomorrow. Do you think you might work any Reformation Day activities into your schedule this week?
